World IPv6 Day

World IPv6 Day is an official day for companies around the world to test a new communication technology called IPv6. Currently everyone is using IPv4. You don’t need to know the details, but it basically is the way communication is handled on networks and the internet. This day will allow everyone to test their networks and communication in a wide manner to see if there are any problems. The testing will only be 1 full day on June 8th.

What do I need to do to prepare?

Most of us will not have to do a thing differently. Most everyone should already be compatible with the new technology. If you or the interrnet server (web site for example) are not compatible you will not be able to access that web site until the technicians fix the issue or they switch back to IPv4 the following day.

How do I know if we are ready for IPv6?

The easiest way to see if you are ready for IPv6 is to test it. You can go to Google’s IPv6 test web site at

Worse Case Scenario

If either your network/computers, your internet provider or the server on the internet you are trying to access is not compatible, you will have a problem and there may not be much you can do about it. As long as your computers and network are compatible, it is then up to your internet provider to do their part and also the technicians who support web site servers on the internet. If you are unable to access the internet at all you should contact your internet provider first. If you are only unable to access a certain web site or more then contact the company of the web site with the problem.
